Baghdad’s municipality has announced the birth of what it says is one of the rarest tiger cubs in the world.
The birth took place at Al-Zawra Park,
Baghdad’s largest green area and a venue for picnickers and families during weekends and holidays.
“Zawra Park has seen the birth of a white Bengali tiger,” said a statement issued by the municipality.
The statement said the new white tiger cub was in good health and was currently under the supervision of a team of Iraqi veterinarians.
“It is one of the rarest tiger cubs in the world,” the statement added.
It said there were only 200 Bengali white tigers left in the world, and all of them in zoos and natural reserves.
The white tiger cub is kept out of public sight but it will soon be made available for visitors to have a look, it said.
